Roger and Lizabeth both go through different things, therefore learning different things at the conclusion of their stories.

The theme of “Thank You Ma’am” is to trust and you will be trusted, while the theme of “Marigolds” is that there is always a time in one’s life where one has lost innocence and matured.

Again, that may be useful to refresh your memory, but that is NOT a response. None of us is qualified to judge literature this way, and again, you will never be asked for this sort of opinion on an essay, or on the Regents exam. Its interesting how the writer describes her clothes and stuff. This is better; it does show evidence of reading and understanding, and some evidence of meaningful thought and insight, but it touches on many different ideas without exploring any of them.

You will never be asked to simply summarize the plot on a literary or academic essay, on the Regents exam, and especially in college. You must not let your opinion, especially a negative one, get in the way of your response. It was weird when she took him home instead of to the cops. Jones seems like a nice lady, but shes a little crazy. This is a start, as it shows the reader beginning to think beyond the text, but its really more of a reaction than a response; the writer would have to explore these ideas in order for this to be effective.

There are many similarities and differences between “Thank You Ma’am” and “Marigolds,” whether in the plot, setting, characters, theme, or conflict. They both were youthful and naive, but mature in the end. This story is about a kid who tries to steal an old ladys purse. This is considered a weak response because it is only a PLOT SUMMARY. I dont understand some of the words and the story doesnt make any sense to me. This response is weak because it is an OPINION, an evaluative judgment, and while we do tend to do that, it is not useful for the purpose of literary response. When he tries to steal her purse, she grabs him and then yells at him. Then she gives him the money for the blue suede shoes he wanted, and lets him go."Mother to Son" also has a deeper meaning, the writer chose to write this poem like a metaphor, referring his life to a staircase."Thank You M' am" is clear about its meaning and uses dialo ...But he got caught trying to stuff the bottles in his bookbag. The lady who works there called the guy out of the back and started yelling at them This one also is better than the weak responses, and its wonderful that the text reminded the student of his own life, but the writing here drifts too far away from the text. This is simply not enough; basic comprehension is no longer our goal. The key is to write what you are getting from the reading; you must be getting something. That kid in the story reminds me of my cousin Steve. He was so ready to do it; he scouted out the store, waited until the guy wasnt looking.I was waiting outside; my friend Jose went in with him.
