When Wikileaks hacked into and released the emails of Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager last year, perhaps the most unexpected name to surface was Tom De Longe, best known as a former member of the pop-punk band Blink-182.
And the subject matter of his correspondences with John Podesta had many people scratching their heads: Aliens.
He also wants to alter the way humans understand their place in the universe, he said in an interview with Mother Jones published Tuesday morning.
“Everyone wants to pin it down to aliens and flying saucers from other planets,” De Longe said. The idea of where consciousness and quantum physics collide is where you're going to find a lot of the unidentified aerial phenomena.
This was our first taste of the new direction the band was heading in and as previously stated, it’s a catchy as fuck pop-punk hit with elements of early blink and 44.
Travis and Mark were hard to fault, Matt’s guitar playing wasn’t too technical but the song itself has become an instant hit for myself and fans alike.(Note: I’ve not heard much of his previous work in Alkaline Trio and from what I did hear, I didn’t like.So I’m unsure if this is his way of natural singing or if he was trying something different for the blink record)“.It’s the second installment in a greater project meant to explore those ideas.According to De Longe’s plans, the series will involve several books and feature films.Whether it's directing a major motion picture or meeting with the most important people in government and dealing with the biggest subjects on Earth…Punk rock is a unique and changing musical genre that was born in both England and the United States in the late 1970s.If changing the way humanity thinks about aliens seems like a lofty goal, De Longe isn’t fazed.“My whole life has been completely about being underestimated,” he said.“You'll always see me doing things that I have no business doing. One specific moment in punk rock history that deals specifically with women, as well as issues of sex and gender, is the development of the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 1990’s.This movement came mostly out of the punk rock scene in Olympia, WA and Washington D. Women found themselves pushed out of punk due to the increasing aggressiveness in the punk scene, especially at concerts .
